In 1990, Sue Darling Elivique took her first yoga class and has never looked back since. Inspired to find health and well-being after a devastating motorcycle accident, Sue quickly recognized the profundity of the yogic path. In 1993, Sue found inspiration and direction for her yogic potential when she met world-renowned Yoga Master BKS Iyengar. From her very first Iyengar class 20 years ago, she knew this was her path. Everything she learned in that first class left her feeling inspired to learn more. “Iyengar Yoga is a lineage, and the teachings are passed on in every class,” says Sue.
Sue became a certified Iyengar Yoga teacher in 1998. The feeling of learning and understanding is still what inspires her today, not only as a teacher but as a student. What Sue loves about Iyengar Yoga is that one learns yogic postures as well as yogic philosophy, which brings clarity and peace to the mind. Through her dedicated practice, Sue has come to understand how Iyengar Yoga is adaptive by nature, and can be used in healing the body and mind.
As a teacher, Sue has spent numerous hours with students of all ages, children, teen, and adults, and has also worked with students with special needs, instructing them patiently in the practice of yoga and Pranayama.
Sue’s approach to teaching is heartfelt, patient, and skillful. She is precise in the teaching of the postures while inspiring everyone in her class to reach their potential. Sue’s classroom is a place to study, practice, reflect, inquire, learn, and grow. Yoga beginners and longtime practitioners alike are welcome and can work at their own pace.
Within the Iyengar system, all teachers are students first. They are encouraged to have a daily practice and a continuous wish to study, and grow throughout their lives. This is an ideal Sue has committed to 20 years ago and continues to dedicate herself to everyday.
Sue is also a practicing Buddhist on the path of loving kindness, and has been part of a worldwide Buddhist meditation study/teaching program for many years. She brings passion for yoga, love of life, and a joyful presence to her class.
